Review Test: Gossip Girl

Rating: A+

Age Limit: 15 +

Genre: Drama, Mystery, and Romance

Gossip Girl . . . A TV show that ran from 2007 – 2012 and kept fans on the edge of their seats with every new installment.

Gossip Girl is one of those TV shows you see online and think that it looks totally cliche . . . Am I right? You see rich popular kids, New York, drugs, alcohol, designer clothes, romance, and lots and lots of drama. Sounds like any other teen TV show, right?

Yes, in part, that is correct. However, although Gossip Girl seems very cliche by the descriptions and pictures and heck maybe even the trailer, it is without a doubt a gripping, suspenseful show that distinguishes itself far from the realms of other popular teen TV shows, like The O.C., One Tree Hill, and 90210, which are three shows that pop in mind.

Gossip Girl is by far the superior to most teen shows that have been on television. Especially as of late, there has not been many teen TV shows that can come anywhere near the writing, acting, dialogue, and mystery that Gossip Girl held. Although there are a few great TV shows out there right now for teens, I do not believe that any come close to the amazing content of Gossip Girl!

Gossip Girl never had one boring episode. Not one! I never remember feeling an urge to walk away, find something else to do, or even fall asleep to a single episode of Gossip Girl. By example, that just proves Gossip Girl’s hold on people’s attention and the fabulous way in which the creators presented their content in a way that kept the viewers wanting more.

In all honesty, Gossip Girl was as much like flipping through a chapter book, you’d say you’d be done after the next chapter and go to bed, but then you found yourself pulling an all-nighter and possibly an all-dayer of watching Gossip Girl until it was finished. And then, you’re stuck with below average TV shows to watch after.

Gossip Girl by far exceeds the makings of a great show and maintains a relationship with the characters like no other show can. Gossip Girl definitely passes this review test with flying colors! The review is located below:

Gossip Girl’s Grade

When watching Gossip Girl you can’t help but feel the emotions and drama that the character’s bring with them. If something sad happens, you’ll share that sad feeling with the character, for example, after Chuck’s dad died in season 2 episode 13 (O Brother, Where Bart Though?) you’ll be left not only missing the person Chuck had been turning into before the tragedy, but you’ll be feeling the emotional roller coaster of his feelings along with him. Besides, there’s nothing worse than seeing Chuck so physically and mentally distraught then in season 2 episode 14 (In the Realm of the Basses).

However, there are many other very emotional roller coasters throughout this show. One episode you can be smiling and cheering on Dan and Serena’s up and down relationship, and the next you can be angry for the betrayal of two close friends, or sad at the break-up of yet another couple. Who knows?

Watching Gossip Girl is like stepping into a different reality and being in the world of the Upper East Siders. It’s a little escape from our world and into a world of drama, cat-fights, kissing, and gossip, gossip, and more gossip.

I’d say that this show is suitable for the ages of fifteen and up if not older. There are many romance scenes in this show, plus many concepts and themes to the show that younger viewers may not be able to understand. On top of that, there is a lot of underage drinking, use of drugs, and heated conversations between teenage characters that is more suitable for older viewers. Additionally, there are times when the characters can be quite snotty, crabby, and disrespectful to not only others but their parents as well, and, the show portrays a very rich and privileged life that is very unrealistic for most people. ‘

Other than that, if you need a great show to watch on a rainy day, or just because, I’d recommend Gossip Girl over and over and over again until you actually watch it! (I’d recommend seeing it more than once too!)

With six seasons and more than one-hundred hours of this scandalous series, you’ll have your hands full watching a show that is most definitely worth the time and the energy put forth watching it.

Bonus tip: You can stream the show on Netflix if you have a subscription . . . And let me tell you, you don’t want to miss this oldie but goodie. Believe me!
